JROTC,
Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps, is a program designed to encourage high
school students to become better citizens. The objectives of JROTC are to educate
and train high school cadets in citizenship, promote community service, instill
responsibility, character, and self-discipline, and provide instruction in air
and space fundamentals. The AFJROTC program is grounded in the Air Force
core values of integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we
do. The curriculum emphasizes the Air Force heritage and traditions, the development
of flight, applied flight sciences, military aerospace policies, and space exploration. Curriculum
opportunities include: - Academic studies
- Character education
- Life skills education
- Leadership opportunities
- Team-building
experiences
- Intramural competition
- Field trips / training opportunities
- Community projects
PurposeThe purpose of AFJROTC
is not to recruit young people into the Air Force. Enrollment in ROTC at the high
school level does not mean a commitment to, or even an interest in joining the
military. Rather our purpose is to teach aerospace science, military history and
world events, as well as to provide young men and women with an opportunity to
learn and practice leadership skills. We accomplish this by providing them with
a scenario to give and take orders practice self-discipline and work as a team
toward common goals. Our program is a 4-year program for high school students.
Each year is divided into two categories: academics and leadership. Academic studies
include two years of history, one year of science and 1 year of optional studies.
Leadership studies include Air Force customs and counties. cadet corp. activates,
study habits, time management, communication skills, and leadership and management
studies. the model curriculum consists of 180 contact hours with aerospace science
comprised of 60 percent of the curriculum and leadership education, 40 percent.
The first year of our program, the student will receive 108 hours of Frontier
Aviation History and 72 hours of Introduction to Air Force JROTC drill and ceremony.
the second year, the student will again receive another 108 hours of Frontier
of Aviation History and 72 hours of drill and ceremony and military customs. The
mission of the AFJROTC program is to build better citizens for America. The
goals of the program are to instill values of citizenship, service to the United
States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment in high school
students. The objectives of AFJROTC are to educate and train high school
cadets in citizenship, promote community service, instill responsibility, character,
and self- discipline; and provide instruction in air and space fundamentals. |
