Talk about the Significance of the Old People’s Running   by Linim

Someone estimated based on the scientific analysis lately. It would take women two hours and twenty-third minutes to finish this race some day. Other records would be refreshed soon. Undoubtedly as more and more women began to run, some women who were gifted in running would take part in running and this possibility would become bigger. There would be amazing results. It was time for women to take part in running, maybe it was suit them best to run.
One or two years ago, after the marathon finished in Boston, I was invited to go to the party which was hold by some runner at their hotel room. It was the most unrestrained for a runner to get together with other runners, so it was a pleasant and joyful party. People were engaged in commenting - there was no doubt that it was prettifying - about their race, as long as someone was willing to listen to. At least I had a chat with a runner whose name was Norman Bright and his hair had already been white. Bright had been almost sixty-five years old, but he could also complete the race with a amazing result - two hours and fifty-nine seconds. He was the 615th, therefore he surpassed two-thirds of the runners. Several young runners who had also participated in this party were sitting or lying on the carpet because they were exhausted after running, but Bright was talking in high spirits. He told me that he was planning to go abroad to take part in some European races and anticipating seeing a different view. He opened an orange backpack at the corner of the room and took out some preparation for this trip such as maps, brochures and blank application forms, etc. He was so excited like a teenage boy.
The result that why Norman Bright looked unusual was mainly because he was an American. The way how the old people live, or even the people who just over forty, we usually had a strange and old idea in our country. They should be like Lawrence Welker and should not be like Bob Dylan. Lawrence Welker was an orchestra conductor and his thinking was conservative, Bob Dylan was a singer and he was a liberal. They seemed to have porridge and should not eat pies, they should doze in the seat of the train and should not run sweaty on the highway from the Hopkinton to the Boston. Europeans rarely had such prejudice. The Sports Association of West German had established more than forty thousand sports club, many of which had sports program about the old people. A fifteen miles race would be hold in Milan in Italy. There were thirty-third thousand people participating in the recent fifteen mile race, four thousand were old people among them, and there were also one hundred and fifty Italian who had already been over sixty participating in the forty-three miles ski race. Although it seemed impossible that sports would replace drinking and became a national pastime in France, hundreds of people whose ages were over sixty years old would get together for exercise once a week. In the Soviet Union, the state was responsible for organizing the cross-country race and ski race.
