Frequently Asked Questions...
Springfield trapdoor Corrosive cleaning?
Another trapdoor question;
I'm planning on shooting blackpowder loads in my trapdoor.
Obviously i need to use hot soapy water and then oil on the bore of the rifle after firing, but how far should i tear down the gun? Does the corrosive residue get inside the bolt/trapdoor? Obviously the lock/trigger mech. doesnt need the cleaning but does the door/bolt need full dissassembly after firing BP?
How does one go about doing that?
Answer:
My shooting partner says that area doesn't get to dirty on his rifle. He only tears it down completely for a thorough cleaning of the action once a year.
As you already know, scrubbing the bore with hot soapy water after you're done shooting and applying a light coat of oil will prevent rust from forming.
He says to use the instructions on this website link below if you feel you need to take it apart. Follow the instructions EXACTLY as described to prevent damaging the rifle.
