ok usually after basic training graduation you see the soldiers in the marines with a shooting badge or someshort with a ribbon, army recuits after graduation usually dont have anything on their uniform, are there different requirements for the medals or ribbons for each branch or in the army can you earn a ribbon or badge in camp and how long does it take to earn awards after bootcamp? sorry i may have worded this confusing but if anyone knows how this works please give me an answer, thank you

In the pre-9/11 Army it took me almost three years to get my second ribbon after the Army Service Ribbon (it was an Army Achievement Medal). Since 9/11 I have added 26 ribbons (if you count oak leaves and numerals).
As a new recruit in today's Army, you walk from basic training with Army Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Ribbon. Once you show up at your permanent duty station you will usually be given the Global War on Terror Service Medal.
