How To Strengthen Your Marriage During Military Deployment

Long-distance relationships are usually quite difficult to sustain. If you're married to someone in the military, then you'll have a long-distance relationship whenever they get deployed. Although serving one's country is certainly admirable, you won't appreciate the effect it has on your marriage.

Having your husband be deployed will undoubtedly cause a lot of problems. You'll undoubtedly feel lonely over time. You'll also be apprehensive and anxious because you know he's in a dangerous situation. If you follow these tips, your marriage will likely survive a military deployment however.

It's important that you have people to talk to you and support you through the situation. It's best that you look for support from close friends. It's particularly beneficial if some of these friends are also in your situation. You'll find that you'll be able to deal with the situation much better if you and your friends share that type of bond.

Every relationship needs a healthy dose of communication. You'll find that communication becomes even more important whenever the two of you aren't physically together. It will probably be a little difficult to communicate constantly since your husband is deployed. At the very least, you should send letters on a regular basis.

Sending emails is only an option if your husband has access to the internet. Instant messenger programs would help the two of you stay in touch better though. If you send him a care package occasionally, he will really appreciate it.

Since he's in a dangerous situation, you'll likely be concerned about your husband's safety. Although you should be realistic about the situation, it's important that you not be too negative. You should hope for the best. The two of you should talk about your future together so you have something positive to look forward to.

Another vital component of successful relationships is trust. You'll find that your marriage will last much longer since you're separated by distance if you're trustful of each other. Make sure that you establish trust so neither of you have to worry about infidelity while you're separated. You will want him to stay focused on the mission at hand instead of worrying about his marital situation.

Some marriages require outside help. Don't be ashamed to seek the help you need. You will find it very helpful to share your feelings with a professional to stop your divorce. The military may even provide you with a suitable counselor if you need one.Doc No.Skdgske4gk-ds

Frequently Asked Questions...

When PCSing to different states......?

I know that your drivers license stays the same with MILITARY printed on it, but what about our license plates on our cars? Registration? Insurance? We are moving from WA to NY.
Thank You!

Answer:

I am not sure which state gives a drivers license with the words MILITARY printed on it but I have been to a few different states and have never had one of them.

The soldier usually doesn't need to switch his License however as the military spouse most states require that you do with NY being one of them. I know this because one we moved to Fort Drum and I had to and Two, I am from NY.

You don't have to switch your registration over if you can make it back to your home-state where the car is registered or they let you do it over the phone or online. Insurance can be a little different though. Depending on the car insurance you have. We have USAA and they cover us no matter what state or if we have to go to Germany, Italy or Korea. I love that insurance company. If you have one of the local car insurance places, you will most likely have to switch car insurance.

Also certain Insurances require you to have that state drivers license. My husband is going through this right now. He has a car through a different insurance company than our USAA because they don't do the type of car he has and the insurance company that deals with his type of cars requires that he have a Georgia Dr's Lic. So he had 6 months to switch over.

A heads up NY does not give any Drivers License with the words MILITARY on it. Being a military spouses makes us a resident of that state unlike our husbands (spouses) so here is what NY says:
If you become a resident of NYS, you must exchange your driver license and vehicle registration from another state for a NYS driver license and vehicle registration within 30 days. If you have a driver license from another state, you must get a driver license from NYS within 30 days after you become a resident of NYS. If you have a vehicle registration from another state, you must get a vehicle registration from NYS within 30 days after you become a resident of NYS.

If the car is also in husband's name you will probably be good to go but I would check with them. We registar our car in GA but because Hubby is not a resident of GA we get the ad vorlem tax form from JAG so that we only pay $20 a year for registration.
