Mamarua NZ Jewellery Utilises Disposed Materials To Create Unique Pendants
Well Mamarua NZ Jewelry all started as merely a dabble, really a few disjointed thoughts, some scratchy drawings on the odd scrap of paper. I appeared to be always fossicking to find that special small something for a friend that had integrity, was NZ jewellery made to gave you that warm mawkish feeling. And each year, there was a distinct lack of Christmas decorations that meant something to us, with our devotion to New Zealand-made Pacific design.
I had a creative itch that required scratching and added to that was the attraction of being my very own chief at Mamarua. I realized I didnt want to consider everything I would have liked to do but never essentially get them done, so with the help of a brilliant young illustrator and a lot of folk steering and supporting my vision, my obscure concepts of Mamarua began to turn into reality.
Gorgeous hand-carved originals were at last finalised, and the method of finding an appropriate molding technique was underway. Enormously necessary to us were the materials our fledgling business needed to be supportable. The chance of recycling something that would otherwise fill our dear landfills became something of a compulsion, so after tons of experimenting we revealed that we could get the specified effect with the use of recycled material. 18 months later on in October 2007, Mamaruas Souvenirs of the South Pacific were launched.
Inspired by our South Pacific environment, the first Mamarua range includes 3 designs Aroha, Koru and Tapa. The three NZ jewelry designs are offered as recycled resin souvenirs and pendants and recycled rubber pendants.
Mamarua to us means two mas, and thats just what we are : a couple of working mums who've pooled our abilities and resources to steer our creative energies in a new direction thats ours alone. Mamaruas kaupapa ( mission ) includes not only planning stunning mementos harking back to our Pacific heritage, but also manufacturing them one hundred percent in Aotearoa, using all recycled materials with green packing.
We are very proud that our mementos are made in New Zealand and employ eco-friendly guidelines, proving once again that supportability can be shocking!
