How to Write a Sales Letter that Sells More!

I've read everything I could get my hands on - from Caples to Collier and beyond, I study the art and science of persuasion every chance I get. I've been slinging words for over 8 years for a wide range of interesting clients, products or projects. One thing I can tell you from my experience is that how you write your sales letter makes a HUGE difference in the response you'll get.

Over that time, I've devoured just about everything I could find on writing better copy. From the original masters such as John Caples, Robert Collier, Claude C. Hopkins and many others, I learned the art and science of persuasion using nothing but the written word.

Current copywriting legends including Dan Kennedy, Joseph Sugarman and John Carlton showed me how to take those skills to the next level. All have helped me get better at writing compelling sales letters that do the hard work of getting people to buy what you sell using the written word.

And since I am student of using the written word to make money for myself and others, I'll always take the time to see what new perspective someone may add to the craft. That's why I picked up a copy of this new e-book called 'Sales Letter Secrets.' I'm always on the lookout for new information on how to write a sales letter that sells more for my clients or my own products.

To be honest, I didn't expect much. I hadn't heard of the writer before - a guy named Bertus Engelbrecht. Of course, he's probably never heard of me either! But, if I can get one nugget of solid information that helps me grow my business, I'm happy with the investment I've made in both my money and my time.

I'm writing about this particular product because I got more than one nugget from it. In fact, I had two major 'Aha!' moments while going through the material. Both of the secrets I learned will make my writing much more powerful and compelling on all future projects.

How to Write a Sales Letter That Sells - Secret #1 - The Template

What I liked about the product is the easy to understand template he lays out. Now, almost every copywriter worth their salt uses some sort of structure to create sales letters - and there's a big hint there if you're just starting out! But the template Bertus explains has some extra details in it that make it easy for someone who wants to learn how to write a sales letter that sells.

From the headline right through to the Post Script (P.S.) he explains the entire process in a way that makes it easy to follow. If you can't put together the outline using this structure, you need to check your pulse!

Luckily, he doesn't just give you the template and leave it at that. He helps you fill out the skeleton with the kind of meat your buyers are hungry for!

How to Write a Sales Letter That Sells - Secret #2 - Filling Out the Template

Each component of the template is clearly explained. What it is, why you need it and how to make it as compelling as possible. For instance, did you know the headline serves two distinct purposes?

And there's a reason for the sub-headline that you probably have never thought of before.

Each part is laid out and you're shown some examples you can take and add to your own sales pages.

And then he adds some basic rules to the structure to ensure you stay on target...

How to Write a Sales Letter That Sells - Secret #3 - Six Rules to Effective Copy

These rules will make your sales letters far better than most of what you see on the Internet. They're listed here:

  1. Use the Four Elements of All Successful Sales Letters (this was my first big "Aha!")
  2. Test and Track Everything
  3. No Constraints
  4. Spice Up Your Sales Letters
  5. Keep it Structured
  6. No Assumptions
  7. No Distractions

Of course, the program goes into much more detail about each rule. This is just to give you the idea.
If you're new to the world of copywriting or you're like me and looking for that one more tip to add to your bag of tricks, you might want to check out this cool little e-book on how to write a sales letter that sells.
